PIG PEN CIPHERS As far back as the Civil War, the Pig Pen Code was used. Its beginning was during the war between the North and the South in the United States of America. If the sender wanted the first letter of the two letters in a box, he would simply draw the box corner. If the sender wanted the second letter, he would draw the same box corner, but would put a dot in it. For example, the letter A would be enciphered to look like the first symbol and the letter B would look like the second symbol.
